Installation shots, Dong Xuan Center, Berlin, 2024

For some time now, I have been exploring the paths of colonial trade routes and tracing the threads of power and exchange.
The Dong Xuan Centre, with its lavish array of exotic fruits, spices and Asian treasures, is a living tapestry of global connections,
woven from a past that still resonates.

I have placed original archive photos of Jesuit missionaries and ceramics amongst these vibrant wares.
They provide a glimpse into the time when their footsteps first touched Asian soil, when their gaze sought to conquer and convert.
Decades later, these missionaries led my ancestor to cross the ocean and wander into the unknown.
